Office for Institutional Equity
Title IX Student Advisory Committee
The Title IX Student Advisory Board (TIXSAB) is a group of students who meet periodically to provide guidance and student perspectives to the Office for Institutional Equity (OIE).
The Board was established to create consistent communication between the student body and the OIE on institutional response to sexual misconduct and related policies and procedures. This advisory board acts as an outlet to ensure students’ voices and perspectives from a variety of spaces on campus are heard and considered when it comes to the College’s response in addressing Title IX and other forms of misconduct. Advisory board members may also participate in the development and implementation of initiatives to promote a climate of inclusion and respect at Oberlin.
Responsibilities of advisory board members include:
- Attending an introductory training.
- Participating in regular meetings throughout the academic year. Meetings occur three times a semester on Friday afternoons at 3PM.
- Collaborating, as appropriate, with campus climate initiatives.
- Committing to at least one year of service on the board.
- Assisting with reviews of the Title IX Sexual Misconduct Policy as appropriate.
- Participating as appropriate in the interview process for staff members in the OIE.
Membership on the Title IX Student Advisory Board is a voluntary, unpaid position. Membership will be appointed for a one year term, and members will be required to reapply should they wish to serve for more than one year to ensure that the membership of this board represents a diverse set of interests and identities. The board meetings occur on the fourth Friday at 3PM of September, October, November, February, March, and April (unless conflicting with academic calendar, in which case a different Friday at 3PM will be used for the meeting).
If you are interested in being a member of the TIXSAB, the application can be found here: TIXSAB Application. Applications will ordinarily be reviewed at the end of each semester for the following semester unless there is an immediate need for new members on the board.
