Issue #3

Course Registration

A professor assisting a student

Oberlin students take courses in a broad range of areas, some of which may be familiar and others that will be new. We know that you are eager to learn about the course registration process for your first semester at Oberlin, and it is important to keep in mind that the initial registration process differs depending on your degree.

The Conservatory Dean’s Office will register Bachelor of Music students for core courses based on their major grid and placement test results. Bachelor of Arts students will submit preferences for a first-year seminar in May, and the Registrar’s Office will register students for one of these courses. The Conservatory Dean’s Office and the Registrar’s Office will combine these processes for Double Degree students.

During the summer, you’ll learn more about course offerings, participate in advising sessions, and register for additional courses. When you arrive on campus in August, you’ll meet with your academic advisor to finalize your schedule.

Please watch for another email this month with more information on the course registration process. This will be sent to your Oberlin email account.
