Check-In
At the start of each semester, all students must “check-in” by swiping their Oberlin ID card to confirm they are physically present on campus.
How do I check-in?
If you live on campus you will be considered checked in the first time you swipe your Oberlin ID card at a swipe location on campus.
If you live off-campus you will be considered checked in the first time you swipe your Oberlin ID card at a swipe location on campus. If you typically do not swipe your Oberlin ID card on campus, please visit the Office of Residential Education Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to Noon or 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and request to use their swipe reader to check-in. If you cannot check-in during business hours, please visit the Campus Safety Office and request to use their swipe reader to check-in.
What is the time frame to check-in?
The ability to check-in begins one business day before the start of classes. This action must be completed by the check-in deadline noted in the academic calendar.
I am not able to check-in by the deadline.
If you are unable to check-in by the deadline in the academic calendar, please write to registrar@oberlin.edu in advance of the deadline with your reasoning. Staff will review and you will receive a reply email with how to proceed.
What happens if I do not check-in by the deadline?
If you do not check-in by the deadline in the academic calendar, it is assumed that you are not attending Oberlin College. As a result, you will be withdrawn from Oberlin College. Students who are withdrawn may apply for reinstatement in a future term according to the fall and spring terms deadlines.
