Experiential learning opporutinities are important for all careers, but especially for those students interested in working in medical, healthcare, global and public health fields. Gaining hands-on clinical and public health experiences in local communities is the best way to learn about these fields and prepare students for success.

Welcome Nursing Home is located in Oberlin and offers skilled care and a wide array of rehabilitation services to its residents. Founded in 1945, Welcome Nursing Home has been run by three generations of the Wessell Family.
Welcome Nursing Home typically offers a Winter Term Micro-Internship through Career Exploration and Develpment each year, which provides Oberlin students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a skilled facility setting. Kendal at Oberlin is a local independent living facility focused on promoting wellness and a resident-led lifestyle. Kendal’s Stephens Care Center also offers memory support care, assisted living, and nursing care.

Cleveland Clinic is a world-renowned, multispecialty academic medical center. Cleveland Clinic brings together clinical care with research and education throughout its numerous locations in Ohio and around the world.
The Cleveland Clinic Center for Youth and College Education offers educational experiences and career exploration opportunities. Cleveland Clinic also has a Volunteer Services program at many of their locations in northeast Ohio.
Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital is located about 20 miles away from Oberlin's campus. This facility offers a wide variety of services from orthopaedic surgery to outpatient procedures and is a great option for students who are seeking opportunities in Lorain County. University Hospitals (UH) is an academic medical center and community hospital network with locations across Northeast Ohio. Not only is UH home to a variety of award-winning specialties in the region, they are also recognized for University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.
University Hospitals offers several summer opportunities for college students:
MetroHealth operates four hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centers and 40 additional sites throughout Cuyahoga County. MetroHealth is Cuyahoga County's safety-net health system and provides care for any patient, regardless of their ability to pay.
MetroHealth offers a Student Summer Volunteer Program for college students. The program typically runs from May to August and applications are accepted in March and April.
Lorain County Public Health (LCPH) is a local public health district serving Lorain County, Ohio. LCPH works to support and improve the health of residents of Lorain County.
