Engaged Learning Lab

The Engaged Learning Lab (ELL) supports creative pedagogies and research oriented towards real world interventions. It is a space for  students, faculty, and community members  to collaborate in creative problem solving, providing students with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical solutions. To work together effectively, ELL teams build trust through community-building, knowledge- and resource-sharing, collaboration, and reflection.

The Engaged Learning Lab offers support to its members through its:

  • Community: Engaged learning is complex work that benefits from collaboration, trust, and community building. Social hours, cohort programming, and mentorship opportunities for all stakeholders will support ELL members throughout their tenure with the lab.
  • Funding: ELL research projects and courses require an investment of time and money for all participants; stipends, project funds, and paid research assistants help to support ELL initiatives.
  • Workshops: Workshops taught by ELL members and guests share project outcomes, best practices, and pose questions for future ELL projects and members to consider as they build their projects.
  • Tools: Many ELL projects utilize technologies ranging from audiovisual recording equipment to digital fabrication tools. The ELL provides access to tools to support these multimodal projects and hands-on initiatives.
  • Engaged Learning Models: The ELL cultivates  organic projects and prompts and incentivizes new initiatives. These projects serve as potential models for future engaged learning projects.
