Undergraduate Research Excellence in Mentorship Award

Oberlin faculty are dedicated scholars, teachers, and outstanding mentors. The Undergraduate Research Faculty Mentor Award seeks to elevate and reward this outstanding mentorship by recognizing a faculty member at Oberlin who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to mentoring undergraduate students in research. Candidates are nominated by mentees who must articulate specific examples of outstanding qualities and characteristics that they have observed in their mentors.

The Undergraduate Research Excellence in Faculty Mentorship Award recognizes a faculty member at Oberlin who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to mentoring undergraduate students in research. 

Each year, Undergraduate Research solicits nominations from Oberlin’s student body, after which a panel of students will evaluate each candidate and select the winner.  The nomination is now open for the inaugural research mentorship award for 2024-25. Any current Oberlin student can nominate a faculty mentor. Please do so using this nomination form by March 10, 2025.

The ideal nominee:

  • Actively involves undergraduate students in research, encouraging them to develop critical thinking and research skills
  • Supports students in pursuing opportunities such as presenting at conferences, publishing research, and applying to internships and graduate programs
  • Maintains a supportive and approachable mentoring style, providing personalized feedback and consistent availability
  • Promotes an inclusive research environment that values and supports students from all backgrounds
