I’m writing to update our community on two important topics: improvements in Oberlin’s student support and mental health services and the ban on smoking tobacco on campus.

Board of Trustees Update March 2015

The Board of Trustees’ third meeting of the academic year took place in Oberlin on March 12 and 13. Over the two days, the Board attended classes, lectures, and forums; signed a steel beam later installed into the framework of the Gateway Complex; and approved divisional capital budget allocations for fiscal year 2016, among other motions.

Get Ready to Welcome the Class of 2019

More than 7,000 students applied to be considered for the Class of 2019. Acceptance letters were sent out at the end of last week, and admitted students and their families will soon visit the college and conservatory for the annual “All Roads Lead to Oberlin” events. PI Series Presents Gonzalo Grau

Multi-instrumentalist, composer/arranger, and producer Gonzalo Grau comes to Oberlin Thursday, April 2, as part of the Performance and Improvisation (PI) Series. Grau will lead a master class from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Clonick Hall and will perform from 10 to 11:30 p.m. in the Cat in the Cream.

Jesse Rowsell Memorial Symposium April 4

A symposium will be held in memory of Jesse Rowsell, assistant professor of chemistry, from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 4. An avid hiker and lover of the outdoors, 37-year-old Rowsell died on a hiking trip near his hometown in northern Ontario on January 30, 2015.
