Marvin Krislov, the president of Oberlin College, announced today that he has agreed to become president of Pace University in New York City, on August 1, 2017. Mr. Krislov, who has served as Oberlin’s 14th president since 2007, had previously announced he would be leaving Oberlin at the end of the current academic year.

On this Valentine’s Day, I’m thinking of all the wonderful people in the Oberlin community. In particular, I want to recognize the older members of our community who add so much energy and wisdom. Also, as second semester kicks into higher gear, I want to extend my annual offer to meet with any graduating senior to brainstorm job opportunities, careers, and/or graduate schools.

Vice President for Finance and Administration Mike Frandsen has announced that he will be leaving Oberlin College at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year to become the President of Wittenberg University beginning July 1.

Oberlin’s celebration of Black History Month is presenting an array of terrific events during February exploring black history and experience in America and the world. Also highlighted this month is a talk by Masha Gessen, a prominent Russian-American journalist renowned for her critical biography of Vladimir Putin.

The Allen Memorial Art Museum has 107 African art objects in its collection. With the opening on February 2, 25 objects are now on view. The installation was curated by students in the fall 2016 seminar, African Art in Museums: From Collection to Display.

Planning has begun for a vibrant dining and retail space in the basement of Wilder Hall, with the goal of improving the dining offerings for those in the Oberlin College community. As part of an overarching strategy to manage the quality and expense of the campus dining program, the Rathskeller kitchen will be offline during the 2017 spring semester. The physical space will be available for social and programmatic purposes, and Wilder Hall’s DeCafé will remain open.
