Student Involvement in Energy Programs
Students play a key roll in designing and implementing energy programs across campus. From paid internships to class projects, students are the heart and soul of much of this important work.
Eco Rep Program
Eco Reps are current students who help to enhance knowledge and skills to successfully communicate sustainability to their peers. They increase overall student awareness of environmental actions, effect individual and group change on campus, and institutionalize environmental stewardship within the student body. Energy Detectives
Oberlin College and Conservatory tracks utility consumption per building. The Energy Detectives are student employees who analyze the data to verify that the meters are accurate, find opportunities for energy and water savings, and identify priority buildings for further study. In comparing data with factors such as the building square footage, the building’s Energy Use Index ranking, and the academic calendar, they make recommendations to both the Office of Energy and Sustainability and Facilities Operations teams, helping to keep energy and resource use as efficient as possible.
Office of Energy and Sustainability Interns
The Office of Energy and Sustainability employs many student workers who assist with the development and implementation of a variety of projects across campus. Learn more about their exciting work.
Resource Conservation Team
The Resource Conservation Team (RCT) is a student group that oversees initiatives such as the Free Store, Food Rescue, Big Swap, and the Johnson House Garden. Learn more about the exciting work of the RCT.
Community-Based Social Marketing
While technology and capital investments are central to achieving carbon neutrality, behavior change is equally important and often more cost effective. The Office of Energy and Sustainability and Professor of Psychology Cindy Frantz work together on a variety of Community-Based Social Marketing (CBSM) projects including teaching a class together each fall semester.
