Dynamic Master Classes and Engaging Performances Define Inaugural Richard Miller Competition

The inaugural Richard Miller Classical Voice Competition for High School Students, held at Oberlin Conservatory on Saturday, October 14, 2023 was a great moment for the 15 young singers who performed in live rounds and master classes.

Competition semifinalists who participated in live rounds at Oberlin Conservatory were selected from 74 applicants from 23 states.

The day opened with all singers performing in the morning semifinals with five vocalists advancing to the finals—a performance that was open to the public. 

Singers who did not advance to the finals performed in afternoon master classes—one taught by Oberlin professors and the other led by Oberlin alumna and lauded operatic mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves ’85.
