Student Shuttle Rider Guidelines: Ensuring a Smooth and Safe Riding Experience
December 3, 2024 10:15 AM
The Student Shuttle is a vital and popular service that accommodates many calls each night. To ensure an efficient and pleasant experience for everyone, please take note of the following guidelines and etiquette:
Calling the Shuttle:
When contacting the operator, provide your pickup location, dropoff location, and the number of riders. This helps the process run more smoothly. Be aware that drivers often handle multiple requests from various campus locations. If there's a delay, kindly note the time of your call. If the driver has not arrived five minutes past the provided ETA, please call back for an update.
Pickup Locations:
Provide a clear, accessible location for pickup. If your requested location is challenging to reach, the operator may ask you to walk to a nearby, easy-to-find landmark. Drivers aim to stay at pickup points for no longer than two or three minutes, so please be attentive and ready when the shuttle arrives. If you miss your pickup, the shuttle must complete its route before returning.
Cancellations:
If your plans change and you no longer need the shuttle after placing a call, please notify the operator promptly. Unused bookings—often called “ghosts”—can disrupt the schedule and cause delays for other riders.
Behavior on the Shuttle:
Maintain a respectful atmosphere. Excessive noise or disruptive behavior hinders communication between the driver, the Jump Seat Assistant, and the dispatch radio. Belligerence will not be tolerated.
Open Containers Prohibited:
Under no circumstances are open containers of alcohol permitted on the shuttle. Violating this one-strike policy will result in immediate removal and a permanent ban from the service. This rule is strict because Ohio State law prohibits open containers in vehicles, placing the driver and passengers at risk of serious legal consequences. Please respect the livelihood of our hardworking student drivers.
Intoxicated Passengers:
The shuttle is unable to transport passengers who are excessively intoxicated or incapable of moving independently. Safety and Security will be contacted to ensure proper medical care and possibly transport you to your residential hall.
The Student Shuttle operates daily from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. during scheduled class sessions, providing stop-to-stop service around the campus perimeter and selecting off-campus locations. For route and schedule details, consult brochures available on campus or call (440) 775-RIDE (7433) or extension 57433 from campus phones.
By adhering to these guidelines, you contribute to the safety and efficiency of the shuttle service for all members of the college community. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration!
