Today I woke up at 7:30 a.m. for an 8 a.m. workout. Waking up early has been a frequent activity since school ended. In Florida football runs the state and my Dad trains athletes for a living, so I am heavily involved in the activity.
Every afternoon I go with my Dad to help train a youth football team. It makes me happy to not only see the kids grow as athletes but also as individuals as my dad teaches them life lessons through training. I have also become involved in accounting and marketing for a football camp that is going to occur later in the summer. Working out and being involved with sports makes me feel productive, so I do it as much as possible. While it is up in the air whether or not there will be sports in the fall, there is no excuse not to prepare for the future.
Outside of football, I am looking to create equity research reports this summer. After talking with Oberlin alumni, I feel that becoming an equity research analyst would be best for my future once I graduate with my economics degree. Therefore, I will begin to make these research reports on my own to resume-build and prepare myself for the job.
I intend on asking one of Oberlin's many amazing professors to be my research mentor while I produce the research reports. Oberlin professors always have invaluable information, and economic professors in the past have helped students land jobs coming out of college. It is always nice to know that you have such great support in your corner and that the professors not only want to see you succeed but will also help you get on the path to success.
While I was studying the stock market preparing myself to produce the research reports I became very interested in day trading. The past ten days or so I have begun to day trade with a small amount of money while I learn the skill. I love to talk with my friends about the things I have learned about day trading, while they tell me about the cool things they are up to this summer. One of my friends is studying the FOREX market while simultaneously empowering young African people to increase their financial literacy. My partner is taking a summer class at Harvard. I always love to hear the fun facts that she has to tell me throughout the day while she studies for the class. No matter where you look, you will always find someone from Oberlin doing something fun and exciting!
I hope you enjoyed reading about what I have been up to so far this summer! I will continue to give updates throughout the summer. Stay on the lookout for an Oberlin memory lane blog coming soon! Also, comment below what you have been doing and what you’re most excited for this upcoming school year!
