Hi everyone! My name is Dakota, and I’m a second-year student from Syracuse, NY. I’m majoring in sociology and comparative American studies, with plans to pursue an integrative concentration in education studies.
Outside of academics, I am on the board of Sisters of the Yam, Oberlin’s Black Sisterhood organization, and am part of the BIPOC Lenses Magazine team, a student-run publication dedicated to celebrating people of color on campus.
As a Bonner Scholar, I spend significant time volunteering at Kendal at Oberlin and tutoring at the Oberlin Elementary School. Around campus, you can find me in the library (either getting work done or chatting with friends), taking laps around Tappan Square in between my classes, and performing with Oberlin College Taiko!
Having struggled with the college admissions process, I understand how overwhelming it can be. I hope my blogs can offer readers an insight into life at Oberlin and let them know they’re not alone on their journey.
