America Counts
America Counts Tutoring
This program pairs college students with children in grades K-9 within the Oberlin City School District and community afterschool programs.
America Counts tutors work with children on mathematical concepts through tutoring and enrichment programming. Tutors may work with children in small groups or one-on-one assisting with homework, ongoing mathematics concepts support and or mathematical enrichment.
This is a paid position for Oberlin College students who have a federal work-study award and are selected to work within this program via a competitive application process.
Tutors work a consistent schedule based on the needs of teachers within OCSD, program directors in afterschool programs, and their availability. Tutors are offered ongoing, paid training opportunities and regularly meet to learn tutoring techniques, review state and local educational policy, and understand student development. America Counts is supervised by Susan Pavlus, director of Education Outreach Programs at the Bonner Center.
