The mission of the writing and communication department is to respond to a broad spectrum of student needs and interests in the area of writing and communication. Our faculty members are dedicated to helping students appreciate the challenges and rewards of writing and to improve their writing processes and their written work.
Our primary concern is with students who are developing their rhetorical flexibility and their sense of writing as a mode of thinking and learning. Secondarily, we seek to support students' exploration of all manner of contemporary rhetoric, such as journalism, grant proposal writing, narrative nonfiction, advanced scholarly writing, and travel writing.
