Fall Previews
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a preview?
Previews are receptions for prospective students and their parents. Their purpose is to share information and generate enthusiasm about Oberlin among our prospective students.
When do they happen?
During the fall travel season: September through November.
What can I do at a Preview?
Just have honest conversations with students and parents! Tell them about your time at Oberlin and the great things that you did. Talk about how Oberlin helped you get where you are today. Answer their questions as best you can. These are casual gatherings.
Would I be the only person there?
No. An admissions staff member will lead an information session, which can take a variety of forms: formal presentation, slide show, or student panel. Other alumni will be there to share their stories about Oberlin. But you can count on answering questions from prospective students or family members.
Why should I attend?
Prospective students and their parents consider alumni to be credible sources of "real" information. What you say carries more weight than a college staff member: it puts a face on what Oberlin is all about. Your presence, as an alum willing to put aside time to talk about Oberlin, makes a good impression on families.
Where do the Previews take place?
Admissions staff plan Previews as they plan fall travel, but you can count on Previews to be held in Boston, New York, Princeton, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
