Oberlin Conservatory of Music

The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, founded in 1865 and part of Oberlin College since 1867, is the oldest continuously operating conservatory in the United States. Renowned as a professional music school of the highest caliber and pronounced a “national treasure” by the Washington Post, the conservatory offers majors in performance, composition, music education, music theory, electronic and computer music, jazz studies, music history, and a double major in piano performance and vocal accompanying.

The conservatory is housed in a complex of soundproof and air-conditioned buildings designed by Minoru Yamasa. The facility includes 40 studios for private teaching, 153 practice rooms mostly equipped with Steinway pianos, two performance halls, and a music library; the largest of any undergraduate institution in the country.
