Williams Field House is the college’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certified building. This designation, by the U.S. Green Building Council, verifies the building incorporates materials and systems that save energy and water, reduces carbon emissions, and is environmentally friendly. While the field house is available for use by all varsity and club sports, the primary sports teams are baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse.
Opened in April 2009, the field house playing surface is a monofilament infill turf from Tiger Turf Worldwide. The surface measures 90 feet x185 feet (16,650 square feet) and is in filled with rubber granules to replicate the play of a natural surface. The building remains cool with the use of four large fans and 64 remote-controlled skylights. The building also has operable windows along the east and west sides to promote air flow.
