When Katherine Cullen’s children were younger, they gave her a rather unique nickname. Find out what it was in this installment of Who Am I?

Name: Katherine Cullen

Department and location on campus: Biology located in the Science Center

Job title: Lecturer and Lab Instructor

What does your job entail? My main responsibilities are coordinating and teaching the lab sections for two biology core courses: molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry; and genetics, evolution, and ecology. Occasionally I get to help out with other courses. For example, this semester I am teaching a lecture for organismal biology. I also get to advise students.

How many years at Oberlin? I started in 2007.

Hobbies? Puzzles—jigsaw, logic, sudoku, cross sums, crossword, and more.

Nickname(s)? None really, although when my kids were young they called me “The Funsucker.” Some of my students might find this appropriate :-)

Favorite food? Nachos!

Favorite Quote? Don't really have one, although [the opening quote in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice] makes me pretty happy because it means some fantastic reading is ahead. “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife."
