Name: José Garcia

Job title and department: Senior Information Specialist and Student Employment Manager, Human Resources, in the Facilities Building.

What does your job entail? A little bit of everything, really. My primary function is the setup and maintenance of employee records for Oberlin College. Throughout my short time here, that has evolved into the upkeep and maintenance of the TimeClock Plus time record-keeping system, as well as a prominent role in various projects within HR to streamline processes and, hopefully, enhance the employee experience in the future. On top of that, we've added the Student Employment Office under my purview as of January 2021. This includes the management of a student employment coordinator and proper oversight of all items related to student employment.

How long have you been at Oberlin? Just a little over two years.

Hobbies or personal interests? When I get a chance, I truly enjoy nature and being by the water. If I can ever get away for an extended period of time, you're likely to find me in a cabin, at the beach, or on a cruise.

Favorite food? This is a tough one. I like very flavorful dishes, and I feel I often find that in Indian, Lebanese, Thai, Italian, and Mexican cuisine. Really, I just love food. Except for fish—not a fan.

Favorite quote? "Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great,” by Mark Twain
