The contemporary music ensemble eighth blackbird, formed at Oberlin by students in 1996, has recently won their third Grammy Award—Best Chamber Music Performance—for a piece written by composer Stephen Hartke, also a 2013 Grammy Award winner.

The Washington Post calls Oberlin alumnus and Met Opera singer Alek Shrader "a gifted young tenor." He will present a recital at Oberlin Conservatory on March 1, at 7 p.m. in Warner Concert Hall. The concert is free and no tickets are required.

On Sunday, February 17 at 3 p.m., musicians from the widely acclaimed Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra and Oberlin Conservatory of Music will perform in a concert to benefit homeless families served by Family Promise of Lorain County. The concert will be held at First Church in Oberlin and donations are welcome.

The Oberlin Orchestra, performing with guest soloist Jeremy Denk ’90 and led by Associate Professor of Conducting Raphael Jiménez, will give a preview of their 2013 NYC Tour Carnegie Hall program on January 16 in Finney Chapel. The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. and admission is free.
