Amelea Kim has been awarded a yearlong English Teaching Assistantship in South Korea. She graduated in May 2012 with a major in East Asian studies. Although her concentration was on Japan, she also studied Chinese history. She has spent the last two years teaching English at Shanxi Agricultural University in Taigu, China, as an Oberlin Shansi fellow.
Kim, who is from Chesterfield, Missouri, says she hopes to visit Jeju Island and the countryside. “Wherever I am, I hope to eat lots of really good food, drink lots of tasty things, and stay up late with people talking about all manner of things under the sun. I am also hoping to get involved in traditional Korean music or art, specifically anything book or paper-related.”
After the Fulbright period, she plans to pursue a graduate program in library science. She also has ambitions for teaching English as a second language when she returns to the United States.
