Visits by cello master Yo-Yo Ma and mezzo-soprano Susan Graham highlight a spectacular lineup for the 2013-14 Artist Recital Series at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

An Oberlin tradition since 1878, the Artist Recital Series is one of the oldest continuing concert series in the United States and a cornerstone of Oberlin’s annual arts offerings. Since the series’ inception, more than 1,000 of the world’s most accomplished musicians, conductors, orchestras, and chamber ensembles have graced the stage of historic Finney Chapel on the campus of Oberlin College and Conservatory.

The upcoming season opens November 5 with a showcase of acclaimed musicians with close ties to Oberlin: Intimate Masterpieces, a celebration of the music of Maurice Ravel, will feature the talents of faculty harpist Yolanda Kondonassis, flutist Alexa Still, and clarinetist Richard Hawkins; celebrated alumni soprano Ellie Dehn and pianist Spencer Myer; and the Jupiter String Quartet, Oberlin’s artists-in-residence for 2012-14, featuring alumna violist Liz Freivogel.

The 2013-14 season continues as follows:

Nov. 20 Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott: The beloved cello master, joined by his longtime collaborator on piano

Dec. 3 The Cleveland Orchestra: An Oberlin tradition, conducted by Marin Alsop and featuring pianist David Fray

Feb. 9 Imani Winds and Gilbert Kalish: Innovative N.Y.C. quintet inspired by sounds from around the globe

Feb. 14, 16 Master Classes with Marilyn Horne: An opera legend shares her passion and insight with Oberlin vocalists

Mar. 1 George Li: Piano prodigy, winner of the 2010 Cooper International Competition

Apr. 6 Susan Graham: The renowned mezzo-soprano, a specialist in French music

Apr. 13 Takács Quartet: “The world’s greatest string quartet,” now in its fourth decade

IN ADDITION TO THE ARTIST RECITAL SERIES: The 2013-14 season features two special-event concerts presented in conjunction with the Artist Recital Series: modern bluegrass purveyors Punch Brothers (Mar. 9) and jazz legend Chick Corea with banjo pioneer Béla Fleck (Apr. 2). The Punch Brothers’ concert is presented in conjunction with the band’s upcoming residency at the Oberlin Conservatory.

TICKETS: Subscriptions to the Artist Recital Series and individual tickets for Punch Brothers and Chick Corea/Béla Fleck are available now at Oberlin’s Hall Auditorium, by mail, and by calling 800-371-0178. Individual tickets for the Artist Recital Series go on sale September 16. Discounts are available for students, seniors, and Oberlin faculty, staff, and alumni.
