Biography

International Experience and Research

From 1994-95: Lived 18 months in the Netherlands Participated in an Intensive Dutch Language Program at the University of Amsterdam after which I continued intensive Dutch language studies sponsored by the Dutch government.
1993-94 - Education Abroad Program (EAP) Field Research Program in Mexico: Did research on the practical and political dimensions of bilingual education of indigenous people in Oaxaca.
1992-93 - lived and studied in Alcalá de Henares, Spain
1990 - Hong Kong, Philippines, China, Macau
1989 - Mexico City

Research Interests

Applied/Educational linguistics, Multilingual Education, Raising Multilingual Children, Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Language Pedagogy & Language Teacher Training.

Masters Research, UC Davis: Researched a local 4th grade Spanish-immersion program to assess the attitudes and motivations of the students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Collected teaching ideas to improve the amount of "comprehensible output" to be produced by the students, in order to enhance their overall linguistic performance and encourage more balanced Bilingualism.

Phoebe Brown ’24 Earns Fulbright to Spain

Phoebe Brown ’24 has earned a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to Spain for the 2024-2025 academic year, giving her the opportunity to teach English in an early education school in the Canary Islands.
