July 11, 2023 12:45 PM
Site preparation for the new residence hall announced by President Carmen Twillie Ambar last spring will begin on Monday, July 17. Located on Woodland Street across from the Science Center, the project site preparation work includes the installation of construction fencing and heavy equipment moving on site. In addition, the Kettering and Woodland Street parking lots will be closed beginning July 17. Individuals who utilize those lots can park in the Hales lot and Philips lot.
What is the Woodland Student Housing Facility?
Oberlin College and Conservatory has embarked on an ambitious residential student housing construction project that provides a new state of the art residential student housing facility located in the heart of campus along Woodland Street.
What’s included in the Woodland Student Housing Facility project?
The Woodland Student Housing Facility will be four stories tall and over 120,000 square feet in size, sustainable focused and net-zero ready. Once complete, our Woodland Student Housing Facility will offer 370+ student beds and feature a mix of quad and single units. In addition, the facility will contain student lounges, a community kitchen, laundry, a multi-purpose classroom, music practice rooms and acres of green space with a connection to the athletic facilities, the north quad, and points south to Wilder Hall and beyond.
What’s the timeline for the project?
Site preparation will begin in July of 2023 and the project will be completed in the fall of 2025.
What about parking?
Wayfinding and alternative parking options during construction will be communicated as the fall 2023 semester nears. After the project is completed, ample parking and convenient walkways will be an integral part of the Woodland Student Housing Facility. In all, more than 250 parking spaces will be added to the campus.
What about construction traffic, noise, and detours?
All construction work will take place inside the construction site fencing along Woodland Street. Large construction projects can create inconveniences including occasional road closures, detours, and noise. We will do what we can to minimize these inconveniences and keep our campus community informed.
