Kari Barclay is a writer, director, and researcher working at the intersection of performance and politics. They were one of the first playwrights in the U.S. to explore asexuality with their 2018 play Can I Hold You? Kari has served as a consultant on asexual representation for BBC Culture, and their writing has been published in Theatre Topics, Theatre Journal, Arab Stages, and The Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism. Their book, Directing Desire, examines the rise of intimacy directing, consent-based approaches to staging sex and sexuality in contemporary theater.
