The performances on March 16 & 17 will be in-person only.
L’Orfeo
by Claudio Monteverdi | libretto by Alessandro Striggio
Directed by Stephanie Havey
Conducted by Christian Capocaccia
This fully-staged production of Oberlin Opera Theater will be presented in four performances, March 14 through 16 at 8 PM and March 17 at 2 PM.
See where opera all began! Monteverdi’s setting of the mythical tale of Orpheus and his great love Eurydice is the first masterpiece of theater set to music. In this production, Orfeo's quest to rescue Eurydice from the Underworld is imagined as a psychological journey in which Orfeo questions the ideals of fidelity and marital bliss in the fight for his bride as his own doubts and fears tear him further away from her. It is a story of passion and courage, and the complexity of the human spirit.
This production is a collaboration of Oberlin Opera Theater and Oberlin Conservatory's Historical Performance program.
