A presentation on three Bach cantatas by Dr. Ellen Exner in Bibbins Hall 325.

Dr. Ellen Exner is a specialist in music of the Bach family and a recovering oboist. Since receiving her PhD from Harvard University, Exner has worked at some of the country’s most prestigious institutions, including Harvard University, MIT, Boston University, The New England Conservatory of Music, and The Philadelphia Orchestra. She has won three teaching awards and authored numerous publications including critical editions, encyclopedia entries, articles, and book chapters on topics related to eighteenth-century music and its reception. Current writing projects include a book on Bach’s Passion according to St. Matthew for Oxford University Press, and editorship of an essay collection for the series Bach Perspectives. Material for a longer-term project in collaboration with Dr. Geoffrey Burgess on Bach’s oboe music is ever accumulating in the background, egged on by Robert Walters and his marvelous oboe studio at Oberlin Conservatory. Exner resides in Philadelphia, PA, with her husband, the Telemann scholar Steven Zohn, their two boys, and three spoiled cats. She currently teaches at The Juilliard School in New York.
