To Grad School, or Not to Grad School - That is the Question

Advanced degrees in music can provide tremendous benefits and resources. Undergraduate degrees are often loaded with other academic requirements, and your time and attention have a lot of demands placed on them. But is graduate school for music the best choice for everyone?

For years, no one disputed the benefits of additional study and research following a Bachelor’s degree but the lines between formerly easy to distinguish career paths — orchestral musician, academic, administrator or teacher — are now blurry and shifting. Many of us are skipping out on extra years of school to build our own maps. Others find that the extra years of graduate school are the perfect time to fully focus and hone our craft.

Join us for a student led discussion on pros and cons of choosing graduate school, and some of the challenges alumni have faced making the decision to attend or not to attend.

This roundtable discussion will be led by current Conservatory students and all are invited to attend.
