Finding the Joy with Seckou Keita

Nicknamed the “Hendrix of the kora,” Seckou Keita is today’s most influential and inspiring performer on the instrument, and is considered a leader of the newest generation of African traditional musicians, fusing traditional forms and instruments with those of other cultures.

Beyond the Writing Center: Abbie Patchen ’24

Abbie Patchen ’24 is a Juris Doctor (JD) candidate at the University of North Carolina School of Law. While at Oberlin, Abbie pursued a minor in Writing & Communication, and was involved with the Writing Associates program, where students assist their peers through writing advice and tutoring. Recently, her work was published within the scholarly publishing collaborative WAC Clearinghouse — work that began as an assignment for Teaching and Tutoring Writing Across the Disciplines, taught by Professor of Writing and Communication Laurie Hovell McMillin. Here, she reflects on how her Oberlin courses and professors shaped her approach to learning and writing.

Richard Miller Classical Voice Competition for High School Students returns in November

Oberlin Conservatory is proud to announce the return of the Richard Miller Classical Voice Competition for High School Students, a festival aimed at encouraging and supporting high school students in the pursuit of a career in classical vocal music. The festival is named in honor of Richard Miller, a member of the voice faculty at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music for more than 40 years.

Academic Advising Resource Center

The Academic Advising Resource Center oversees advising, enrollment, and course registration from the time you are admitted through graduation and beyond.

Bonner Center

The Bonner Center for Community-Engaged Learning, Teaching, and Research connects students with service opportunities in schools, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies.

Career Development & Exploration

Students and recent alumni benefit from such services as career exploration, internships, skill building workshops, and more.

CIT Help Desk

Our customer-service driven help desk provides software support for all types of computers and hardware support for under-warranty Macintosh and HP Business line computers.

Conservatory Professional Development

Workshops, advising, resume building, job searches, mentoring, and more are tailored to conservatory students and musical studies majors from the college.

Counseling and Psychological Services

Counseling and Psychological Services professionals provide short-term confidential psychological support to students as they pursue academic and personal goals.

Disability & Access

The Office for Disability and Access (ODA) facilitates access to all programs, services, and activities that are provided at the college, while encouraging and helping students to develop self-advocacy skills.

Fellowships and Awards

Fellowships and awards fund student research, teaching, travel, and service from the first year of college through the early alumni years. We help students discover opportunities, prepare applications, and present themselves compellingly in interviews.

Multicultural Resource Commons

The MRC is a gathering place for the collaborative support of historically disenfranchised communities. We work on issues of diversity and inclusion within a social justice context at Oberlin College.

Office of the Registrar

Registrar staff supports enrollment and registration activities by maintaining and publishing course offerings, managing the enrollment and registration processes each semester, and coordinating the publication of the online course catalog.

Winter Term

Winter Term takes place each January to give students the opportunity to explore in depth topics of interest. The office has a wealth of resources to help students select projects, funding sources, and sponsors.

Center for Student Success

Advising, peer mentoring, tutoring, academic workshops, and strategies to improve study skills are among the services available to students through this office.

Student Health Services

Our team of medical practitioners treat a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries and offer follow-up care as needed.
