I had a great first week of school and it was because of all the positivity and love around me. So I got creative and wrote a post about loving the love around me and extending it further.

I didn't just bring tchotchkes back to Oberlin with me, I also brought some intangible things, new words, new experiences, and of course, lessons learned.

Between roughing it in the woods on my own, getting myself to and from my job/internship every day, and being responsible for 30-odd children, this was one of the most grown-up summers I've ever had.

More importantly, I learned how to take care of myself and be comfortable being me, with all that that entails, and am ready to return to class and campus this Fall.

A short list for first-time OSCAns, or anyone needing a quick refresher!

In light of the rising of Ferguson, MO to mass media attention and the ever increasing black and brown bodies being lost, I took some time to reflect on what I am called to do. First and foremost was to qualify what this blog is for and to set the tone for what is to come.

"Disclaimers" sets the context for this open letter of sorts that captures elements of a relationship that stands the test of time among a variety of societal challenges, perceptions and misunderstandings.

So I asked myself, when did I genuinely enjoy what I was doing? The answer: while studying sociology at Oberlin.

The first thing I remember about orientation is the excitement that came from constantly introducing myself to other people, telling them about my passions and interests and hearing about theirs in turn.
