I was surprised at the level of detail that goes into every inch of the piano. You can see why a good piano costs as much as a car - we spent a few classes repainting the dampers, aligning and glueing new felt to each damper (the shape of the felt changes through different registers of the piano), putting them back into the piano, and fitting them until they perfectly silenced the strings.

It had been at least a year since I had been in this studio though, and I was excited to bring a camera with me.

And now we delve into one of the strangest, most exhilarating nights of my time here at Oberlin.

Through the magic of circus networks and the hard work of our administrators, OCircus! was able to offer heavily-discounted tickets and a free bus ride to Cleveland to Oberlin students who wanted to go see Cirque du Soleil. Of course everyone did.

I don't know how long the institute was in the making, but Rubin could have supported other established music programs, had a wing or a studio built at a music school with his name embossed on a silver plate, or even set up a scholarship in music criticism.
