The past few weeks at Oberlin have been very hard, but they have reminded me why I care so much about this place and the work that we all do, on a variety of levels, on this campus.

My name is Aleena, and I am a Yalie... I spent my past week visiting Dara at Oberlin, and now I'd like to share my observations, because I truly believe that Oberlin is an incredible place, and it might be interesting hear about from a non-Obie perspective.

Listening is not easy; hearing is even harder because it means that you have to think about your own positions as well as those of the other party. And that is particularly difficult when one's ears are filled with shouts of approval from one's supporters (or one's hearing is hardened by disapproving voices from one's detractors). But hearing is essential if we are to move ahead.

Last week was a week full of words.

Or, I'm taking a dance class and I can't help but parallel lessons learned on the dance floor to my learning in the bigger world.

It is really quite easy to mistake this place for a little snow globe, complete with picturesque buildings, tiny flakes of falling snow, and of course the glass sphere encasing it all.

Marching forth on the fourth of March, for a cause that goes beyond Oberlin

Obies are continuing to have conversations about progress. But in order for these conversations to be productive we must all commit to open-mindedness. It will be difficult, but ultimately necessary.

This is my voice; it stands with you. I stand with you.

Why the story of these ladies has not been the subject of an Oscar-winning biopic I have no idea, because I'd definitely sponsor it.
