Let's catch up. I've been shooting lasers, writing calligraphy, and eating fresh fish.
It's Good to Have a Posse

I felt privileged that they were willing to share their stories with me and allow me to observe and participate in their quest of discovery and definition.
Tell me what you study and I'll tell you who you are

I've never liked the term "discipline" as a way to refer to what I teach and write about. It's harsh, forbidding, army-like. I much prefer to tell people that I work in a particular field --maybe because as a kid I wanted to be a farmer.
Gloria Steinem, Activism, and Oberlin
March 7, 2011
Oberlin's second convocation of the semester took place last Wednesday. The speaker was Gloria Steinem. Colleges are working very hard to recruit you and several thousand of your closest friends, and they will spare no detail in providing you all the information you may need to make your choice. Your challenge is to deal with all this information: to somehow assimilate it and keep it organized.
Snow busy-ness
February 26, 2011
Things got a little hairier at this point, if I remember right, and I found new uses for my simple tools. The flat head screwdriver could be easily used as a pry bar, I found, pulling up pieces of the tape player whose screws wouldn't yield to my five year-old hands.
