Oberlin Blogs

Max Strasser ’09

My name is Max and I am in my fourth and final year here. I'm from Montclair, New Jersey, just a few miles from New York City.

My major is history, but that doesn't tell you much because as one of my professors once pointed out "History is just anything that happened in the past that involves people." My focus is on twentieth century international relations, especially the Middle East. I am currently working on my senior honors thesis about American foreign policy towards Syria in the mid-1950s. It should be done in at the end of the spring, though I can't even begin to imagine that. I'm sure I'll be posting updates about that project here.

While foreign policy, etc. is my main pursuit, my interests extend far beyond that. I also like presidential history, American politics, the Israel-Palestine conflict, geography and many other topics. Just kidding. Well, not really.

In my free time I like to hang out at my off-campus house with my friends. I love fine food and fine beer. One of my favorite things about Oberlin is our access to local products, like Hickory Acres meats and Great Lakes beers.

I have had a show on WOBC for every year that I've been at Oberlin. You can hear me (or, more accurately, my alter ego DJ Quickdraw) playing classic honky-tonk and outlaw country every Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. (Listen online! Not just to me, but to everyone.)

After I graduate in the spring I hope to become a journalist. Though for now I can't imagine life in the outside world, over the past four years I think I have become an expert on the Oberlin world. Thanks to our stylish new blog site, you get to be privy to my expertise. Internet!

NYT asks:

May 26, 2008

In case you didn't catch it, Oberlin College was on the front page of the New York Times yesterday. It's a good story, but in my opinion, it's lacking.
