Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies

Why take courses in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies?

Our courses foster transformative understandings of the role identity plays in shaping history, theory, and individual lives. Our broad academic approach reflects the way feminists work—collaboratively across boundaries—exploring how gender, race, class, and sexuality are represented in relation to ethnicity, nationality, politics, and other categories of human experience.

What kinds of questions does Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies explore?
  • How is “gender” and “sexuality” defined? How have these terms been defined historically?

  • How does the study of gender, sexuality, and feminism influence domestic and international politics?
  • How are our studies influenced by other social categorization?

What advice would you give students interested in taking courses in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies?

We are radically interdisciplinary and students are frequently able to find a course that overlaps with their interests.
