Yeowomen's Tennis Continues Hot Run
The Yeowomen tennis team pulled out another win this past Saturday against Ohio Dominican in a non-conference match. Despite earlier predictions about the outcome, the women won a match that was closer than expected. This became clearer after the doubles one spot, played by junior Kimiko Glynn and senior Bianca Barr, ended in a surprising loss of 2-8. The Yeowomen breezed through the rest of the doubles pairings, with junior Jackie Golden and sophomore Elle Anzinger winning 8-1 and sophomores Olivia and Jane Hayden winning 8-6. The rest of the match was not a walk in the park though, as the singles leg of the contest became challenging. Ohio Dominican proved to have extremely consistent singles players. Their style of play really gave the Yeowomen a hard time as they would chase down every ball after a return. Glynn started out singles as the one spot after coming off the injured list. She had a hard time adapting to Dominican’s strange play early on, missing a few key shots that cost her some major points and caused a rolled ankle. Glynn lost both sets 4-6. Barr came in at second singles and had similar difficulties, adapting her play to that of ODU’s and closing out the first set 7-6. She then won vital points in the second set to close out the match as a 7-6, 6-3 winner. Anzinger’s match as number three singles player also had a close first set followed by a more dominant second as she won 7-5, 6-1. Golden had a harder match at the four as she just could not seem to get the style of play down. Though she started making more key shots in the second set, she was unable to gain the win, losing 3-6, 5-7. Sophomore Kelly Sipp played as the number five this time around and had a great match. Despite going against an opponent with strong play and a foul attitude, Sipp adapted her game well and had a dominating win of 6-4, 6-1. Sophomore Olivia Hayden finished out the match with another fairly impressive match as the number six, winning 6-2, 6-3. Final score: 6-3 Oberlin. The versatility that the Yeowomen have shown to win their last five matches was readily apparent in this match as well. They improved their record to 5-1. The Yeowoman look forward to two more wins in their upcoming matches on Saturday against Ohio Wesleyan and Sunday against Wittenberg University. | ![]() |
