Twelfth Night

From July 5th through August 3rd, Shakespeare’s rollicking comedy of love, loss, and mistaken identity comes to the Oberlin Summer Theater Festival  in a concise adaptation designed for easy comprehension.

When a shipwrecked princess is swept onto the shores of Illyria, she disguises herself as a young man and enters the service of the Duke, who enlists her to woo the nearby Countess on his behalf. Her task proves difficult, however. Not only has the princess fallen in love with the Duke, but the Countess, believing the Duke’s messenger to be a young man, has fallen in love with her! Mischief, mayhem, and merriment soon ensue as a love triangle unfolds itself against the backdrop of a practical joke, several would-be lovers, and one pair of yellow stockings.

Leading the cast of Twelfth Night are Oberlin College Alumni Heather Harvey ’11 (Viola), Tip Scarry ’11 (Orsino) and Jes Bedwinek ’05 (Olivia.) They are joined by OSTF veterans David Bugher (Feste), **Matthew Wright (Malvolio), **Pete Ferry (Sir Toby Belch), Debra Rose (Maria), and Aaron Profumo ’12 (Antonio.)  "The works of Shakespeare and other great playwrights are essential to our Theater tradition and need to be shared with every generation," says Moser.  OSTF hosts an Acting Shakespeare Intensive for qualified high school students to further expose young people to Shakespeare.

So, if there was ever a perfect time to introduce your friends, family, or yourself to Shakespeare this is it! This production of Twelfth Night is appropriate for children ages 6 and up.
