Diego Luna
I’m Diego Luna, the MRC Latino/a Community Coordinator. I was born and raised in rural Northern California and I graduated from the University of California, Davis with a double degree in Women and Gender Studies and Chicano/a Studies. Following my undergraduate career, I earned an M.A. in Chicano/a Studies at San Jose State University. As a budding scholar, I am interested in the intersections between masculinities, education, and the socialization of violence. Reflective of these interests, my master’s thesis discussed the impact of gender socialization on Latino male collegiate retention rates.
Throughout my undergraduate/graduate career, I worked on a number of social justice issues including immigrant rights, academic retention, and youth political empowerment. During my senior year at UC Davis, I served as a co-chair for the first Western Regional LGBTQIA College Conference and I have spent the last four years working as an academic adviser to both high school and college students of color.
