The New York Times review of Junot Díaz’s recent novel says it all: “He’s written a book that decisively establishes him as one of contemporary fiction’s most distinctive and irresistible new voices.” Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Díaz is the author of Drown and The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the 2008 Pulitzer Prize, among many accolades. Hear Díaz read his own prose, and discover why critics call his writing fresh and street-smart, an energetic blend of David Foster Wallace and Kanye West, peppered with Spanglish and witty asides.

“You really want to know what being an X-Man feels like? Just be a smart bookish boy of color in a contemporary U.S. ghetto. Mamma mia! Like having bat wings or a pair of tentacles growing out of your chest.”
