Called “an operatic superstar of the 21st-century” by USA Today, Denyce Graves ’85, hon. ’98 is one of today’s most exciting and in-demand singers. The Oberlin alumna has become particularly well-known for her passionate portrayals of the title roles in Carmen and Samson et Dalila at great opera houses—the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna Staatsopera, and Covent Garden among them. In recital, she brings her dynamic stage presence to a wide range of song, from German lieder to Broadway tunes to American spirituals. This special concert is part of a dedication event forthe Helen Hodam Merit Scholarship in Voice.
“Put simply: if the human voice has the power to move you, you will be touched by Denyce Graves.”
