Trace Elements: New Work At Oberlin is the Allen Memorial Art Museum's first exhibition in more than three decades dedicated exclusively to the work of the Studio Art faculty of the Art Department at Oberlin College. Featured are new works by Rian Brown, Johnny Coleman, Pipo Nguyen-duy, John Pearson, Sarah Schuster, and Nanette Yannuzzi-Macias. Diverging in aesthetic and medium, these six artists are nevertheless linked by their common investment in landscape.
Organized by Stephen D. Borys, Curator of Western Art at the AMAM, with the assistance of students Susanna Newbury and Alexander Grogan, Trace Elements brings together a visually compelling group of paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings, film and video, and installations that connect with the physical and intellectual landscape that surrounds us. In addition to more than seventy color and black-and-white illustrations, the catalogue includes extensive interviews and biographies and an essay by art historian Jennie Hirsh.
Softback (2005; 124 pp.; 58 color ill., and 14 black & white ill.). Published by the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College. $25.00; Special price for members of the Friends of the Allen Art Museum is $20.00. For a trade discount, please contact the museum.
